Our hearts go out to the people and the city of New Orleans and the entire Gulf coast area affected by the tragedies of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. As New Orleans recovers and rebuilds from this disaster, the conference organizers have decided to move the conference to Houston, Texas. We are confident you will enjoy the Galleria district of Houston as the new venue for SAS 2006.

The new IEEE Sensors and Applications Symposium 2006 brings together the sensor user and developer community to address novel and emergent applications in biology, homeland security, system health management and related areas. The symposium offers a variety of formats designed to maximize the exchange of information and provide opportunities for visioning. Topic areas include –

Submission Process

Authors should submit an extended abstract reflecting new or advanced study, theory or application. Details of the required format and the submission process can be found here.
Participation by students is particularly encouraged – there is a reduced registration fee for students presenting their accepted papers (when accompanied by an advisor paying full registration fee). A Best Student Paper award will be given and opportunities exist for travel grants – make sure to check the student paper box on the paper submission website.

SAS 2006 Travel Grants for ISHM Education

Integrated System Health Management (ISHM) is an important new area of development that combines a number of technologies including--but not limited to--smart sensors, health detection, database, data fusion, networking, and visualization. Authors who are submitting an extended abstract in SAS 2006 have a unique opportunity for participation in a workshop exploring future directions for ISHM education. The workshop session will explore ideas for incorporating ISHM into university curricula. Through the sponsorship of NASA-Stennis Space Center, a number of $1,000 travel grants are available to participants in the ISHM education forum. To apply, please forward a 1-page position paper of your ISHM education strategy to Lee Myers. Include "ISHM Education Travel Grant" in the subject line.

Submission and Acceptance

Papers will be reviewed by the technical program committee for originality, clarity, and technical merit. Papers describing emergent technologies with potential for commercialization are encouraged. Accepted authors are required to assign copyright to IEEE. Papers will be published in the proceedings ONLY if at least one of the authors will register for the conference at the full registration fee.
